Appraisal Guide

Appraisal covers two jobs that use different tools. A counterfeit check asks whether a product is genuine, and you settle it with the Magnifying Glass and the matching guide. The appraisal service asks what a customer's item is worth, and pays you a fee for a close estimate. Both protect your margin, and this page gives you the tells, the fee tables and the value formulas for each.

Which guide answers which question

Pick the check before you pick the tool. Each item below has its own reference, and a guide for one item tells you nothing about another.

Running a counterfeit check

Put the item on the tray

Use the Magnifying Glass on the item and open its guide beside it, so the reference and the goods sit in view together.

Check one field at a time

Work through lettering, logo, color and seal rather than judging the whole pack. One confirmed issue is enough to call it.

Tick the issue and confront

Choose the matching issue in the Counterfeit Check panel, then press Confront. Pick the issue you can see; a named box issue only fits the one blank pack described below.

Decide what the result is worth

A correct inspection can open a good-inspection discount, which is where the check pays for itself. A bad accusation is a reputation risk.

Fake and stolen are separate questions
A counterfeit pack is not automatically a stolen one, and a genuine pack can still draw Security heat. This check only settles authenticity.

What to look for, and which issue to pick

Read across from what you see on the tray to the verdict and the issue to select.

Working the appraisal service

Join the board

A board member invites you, from day 8 on Mark Up. The entry fee is 85 Credits, or 170 on Thin Margins.

Show the certificate

Put the Appraisal Board Junior Certificate in the display case. It is what brings appraisal customers to your window, so leave it there.

Junior Certificate →

Inspect, then send your number

Examine the item, work out its value from the guide and submit the estimate in the Appraisal Service panel.

Stay inside the window

An estimate has to land within 50–150% of true value, and its accuracy grade needs a rate above 0% at your rank. Each rejected number adds 49 impatience, and at 100 the customer walks out.

Collect the fee

An accepted estimate pays the base fee plus a percentage of your estimate, and the game issues an Appraisal Slip recording it. A Perfect 999 on a 1,000-Credit item at rank 0 pays 20 + 149 = 169 Credits.

Take the promotion

Promotion raises your rank by one and swaps your certificate for the new one. Put that in the display case too.

Accuracy

Accuracy grades

How close your estimate sits to true value decides the grade, and the grade decides your cut.

GradeEstimate vs true value
Perfect95–105%
Excellent91–94% or 106–109%
Good86–90% or 110–114%
Mediocre76–85% or 115–124%
Awful75% or less, 125% or more
Higher ranks are less forgiving

Rank raises the pay and removes the bottom grades. At rank 3 only Perfect and Excellent estimates qualify.

Fees by rank

The percentage is taken from your estimate, not from true value. A dash means that grade is not accepted at that rank.

Working out what an item is worth

Each formula starts from one number and adds every line that matches. The catalog price of the item is not part of the sum.

Bionic hands

Start from the material, then add every other match. The value cannot fall below 50 Credits.

Check it is real first. Torn packaging, a bad date, a facility outside 1–35, a wrong Davre logo, or a sticker on a first run all put it at the 40-Credit floor.

Mistakes at the tray

Pricing from the catalog

A plasma cartridge lists at 300 Credits, yet the right one calculates to 1,200. Use the guide's sum instead.

Accusing on a hunch

A suspicious price is no evidence. Confront only when a visible issue supports your choice.

Reading a grey button as proof

A disabled chemical confrontation button can mean the check is locked or the item is yours. Run the composition scan and compare it with the label.

Using the wrong tool on water

Cigarette, stamp and injector guides say nothing about water. Test it with a strip or AquaScan.
