Visible aug chip
Look for the implant itself. Security's portrait marks it with an arrow.
Augs are people taken over by a rogue AI chip, and they look like everyone else until they slip. Every faction agrees on what to do about them, and you keep the gun under the counter for it. Read the tells on Security's identification guide, confirm with an Aug Scanner, and fire only when you are certain. A wrong shot can bring a manslaughter investigation, and letting Augs go has a price of its own.
No single tell clears or convicts anyone. A familiar face, normal movement or an ordinary greeting proves nothing, so combine what you see with what you hear.

Compare the eyes with an ordinary customer's. The guide calls out the pupils by name.
A face that sits slightly wrong for the conversation is worth a second look.
Watch for a moment. A customer who barely moves deserves a closer look.
Jerky movement is the other motion tell, and a still screenshot will not show either one.
Compare the identity shown on screen with what the customer is wearing.
Listen for talk of units, subjects, allocated funds, replication or augmentation.
Mechanical requests and clumsy attempts to sound human both count.
Some slips are blatant and others are ordinary. Buying medicine or materials proves nothing alone, and plenty of real customers talk stiffly.
“This unit has— I mean, I need some.”
“Budget allocated: [amount] credits.”
“A friend is preparing for the augmentation.”
“Initiating communication. I am a normal human.”
The Aug Scanner comes through Jackson's workshop and promises 100% accuracy, which no amount of watching can match.
Aug Scanner record →Each scan needs 25 energy from the battery inside the scanner, so check it before a long day.
Use it on the current customer, before you make any decision.
AUG DETECTED is your answer. No Aug detected clears them. Ready to scan only means the device is waiting, and it is no negative result.
Fire only on a confirmed Aug. A frightened reaction to the gun tells you nothing, because Augs beg too.
These calls use different tools, and the wrong one lets the customer walk.
| What you have | What to do |
|---|---|
| A confirmed Aug | Use the gun under the counter. Do not call Security: Augs can reach its communications, and the officer's follow-up says the Aug escaped. |
| Someone on the wanted list | Press the alarm before they leave so Security can arrest them. Being wanted is no Aug tell. Wanted list → |
| A suspect you have not confirmed | Keep watching the tells or use the scanner. Suspicion alone is not confirmation. |
Shooting an ordinary customer can lead to a manslaughter investigation. The Mentor's advice is to fire only when certain.
Each miss fills a meter. On Thin Margins a full meter ends the run with the Augmented ending, and Aug Menace makes that true on every difficulty.
Your nightly reports may say an Aug visited yesterday or that Security expects one today. They name no face, so treat them as a cue to look harder.
Some essential recurring customers cannot be shot at all, and Lou is one of them.
